What should you do if you are wrongly accused of running a red left turn arrow?
I was stopped in San Diego, CA for running a red left turn arrow, which I did not do, and my boyfriend was a witness to this (in the passenger seat). Is it worth trying to fight it? What are the odds a traffic judge will believe us over a police officer?
Always go to court for traffic tickets. First of all, it lets the judge know that you feel strongly enough about the unjust (in your opinion) accusation to take time to protect your rights. Second, it gives the judge the opportunity to reduce the charges against you if he feels that there may be some possibility that you are innocent. Third, it is the ONLY way you can be found not guilty (kinda like the lottery - if you don't play, you can't win). And then there is always the chance that the Officer won't show up in court. You have a right to face your accuser in court. If he's not there to accuse you, you cannot be found guilty.
