Played With The Help of a Fender

As a recording engineer, I wasn't immediately aware of how ubiquitous the Fender bass was in popular music, I knew one when I saw it, but it was only after years of being around, having discussions and working with some very good bass players that I realized how much music that I knew and loved was touched by Fender in some way.

The Language and Legacy of Fender Bass Sounds

Going even beyond that, I began to learn about the various sounds, how they were created and the interaction between the instruments and the recording chain. For example, the sound of a early 60's Precision bass with flat wound strings recorded through a Neve board on to tape at 15ips, the way the transformers on the Neve add width to the sound. This in a sense is a sonic vocabulary and I am realizing that one never stops learning new words and combinations.
